Asteroid will zoom by Earth
Great as an aircraft carrier, the asteroid "2005 Yu55" will cross Earth’s orbit at a distance never so close to Earth since 1976. According to NASA, it will pass roughly 203,000 miles from Earth, just inside the moon’s orbital distance. The perigee is scheduled at 6:28 p.m., Eastern time, on Tuesday. The asteroid – roughly spherical with a diameter of about 400 meters – will have no detectable effect of gravity and to observe it from Earth will require an optical telescope with a lens at least 15 cm.
