Reading a few articles around, I noticed that some psychologist or educator is concerned about the “new” sexual orientation of some today’s youth.
Beyond the tendencies poles apart (heterosexuality and homosexuality,) in the middle there are others that are often defined by the term Pansexuality. Omnisexuality or pansexuality is sexual attraction, sexual desire, romantic love, or emotional attraction toward people of any sex or gender identity. Young people who self-identify as pansexual assert that gender and sex are insignificant or irrelevant in determining whether they will be sexually attracted to others.
For many, this “post-gay” trend is related to the use-abuse of stimulants and antidepressants, a sexual utopia that would hide the discomfort of the “Cuddle Puddle’s proponents.” Insecure teens or heavily marked by the failure of other relationships…. maybe!
For some “pundits” of these days the search for identity begins among school’s desks, where our teenagers, between a class and another, engage in sexual relations with peers – and this would seem fine to them – and according to their opinion, the trouble would start when teenagers do not make any difference in dealing with male or female. What? Why?
Perhaps in some cases it is a challenge in themselves, but as always we cannot be so generalist.
Honestly, I cannot understand why, like many other things, sexuality has to be identified, labelled, categorized, and criticized unless it complies with what society presumes must be its “appropriate” course.
Who of us established or decides what is the correct sexuality for human beings?
Unluckily, whatever is human is uncertain and not absolute, including some rules. For certain complicated things, like sexuality, who are we to judge and criticize?
Like other mental affairs, sexuality is a very complicated issue that can’t be governed, beyond not being in some cases a choice.
Pansexuality rejects the gender binary, the “notion of two genders and indeed of specific sexual orientations”, as pansexual people are open to relationships with people who do not identify as strictly men or women. We can assume that it is an evolution of bisexuality prevalent among young people in the late 60’s and that until recently was considered cutting-edge and quite common among aristocrats.
Camille Paglia promoted bisexuality as an ideal. Harvard Shakespeare professor Marjorie Garber made an academic case for bisexuality with her 1995 book “Vice Versa: Bisexuality and the Eroticism of Everyday Life,” arguing that most people would be bisexual if not for repression and other factors such as lack of sexual opportunity. In “Scientific American Mind”, scientist Emily V. Driscoll stated that homosexual and bisexual behavior is quite common in several species and that it fosters bonding: “The more homosexuality, the more peaceful the species”. The article also stated: “Unlike most humans, however, individual animals generally cannot be classified as gay or straight: an animal that engages in a same-sex flirtation or partnership does not necessarily shun heterosexual encounters. Rather, many species seem to have ingrained homosexual tendencies that are a regular part of their society. That is, there are probably no strictly gay critters, just bisexual ones. Animals don’t do sexual identity. They just do sex: a normal thing.
Well, apart from this scientific considerations or studies, shouldn’t the equal rights and freedom involve our sexual tendencies too?!
He’s the first Italian to win this award and few Italian people know him, aside from a mass of teenagers who love video games. This is Lorenzo Ostuni, a nineteen year old from Turin who with the nickname ” Favij ,” about three years ago, started sharing on YouTube tips and impressions about video games. On his channel, on YouTube, you find his videos taken by webcam while he plays with his console. Jokes, bad words, jokes, smiles, grimaces and things like that do not follow a script and do not even have a real content, but with an exciting rhythm given by a good post-production editing. Probably, other players liked his outburst while playing, and those who followed him in just three years have exceeded one million (1.2 million subscribers). Nearly as many as those that our RAI national channel has. The visualizations generated by Favij channel are around 280 million, while here a famous telefilm series gets an audience of about 6 million!
By regulation, Google rewards Youtubers whose videos have over a million of subscribers, and for that, a few days ago, Lorenzo received the Golden Button, a big button-shaped plate 24-carat gold. But in the meantime, some companies already are knocking on his door, like Sony for a TV commercial.
Like Lorenzo says, “What could be more beautiful than turning a playful passion into a profitable business?”
At the time of the Beatles, during their concerts, fans were crying and gave vent to their happiness at the sight of the musicians on stage, crowding and despairing even to have the chance to see them up close and touch them.
Scenes of the past?
No, this is still happening, even if today these scenes are not so striking and no longer big news as it once was. If you want to attend in person in such situations, go to a Justin Bieber or One Direction concert, for example. There, you will see hundreds of teenagers screaming and waving at the sight of young artist singing on stage.
But this is not all.
The love for their idol lead some fans to do everything, as it happened in Bologna in the only Italian stage of Bieber. Hundreds of girls aged 14 and up went to the concert even if living in other cities, and all hoped to be chosen from Justin to go on stage and seeing dedicate, face to face, a song, how usually the young singer is doing at his concerts.
Giorgia also was at that concert who, although not a Bieber fan, had accompanied her friend who likes Justin. Life sometimes does tricks, and Georgia could not foresee at all that among thousands of screaming fans, from the stage Justin would choose her to be the “less lonely girl” of the evening. Under her friend’s astonished eyes, she was made accommodate on the stage, where Justin took her by the hand and made sit down, then dedicating her a song. Justin was there a few inches from her, singing with affection a song and looking into her eyes.
I can not imagine how much envy all the girls, that were there, have felt at that time. Not everyone has such a luck, and chance would that, the one to be kissed by fortune was not even a follower, like the hundreds who were there dreaming of being close to Justin, to touch and kiss him…. willing to do anything for him.
Envy has no limits and in the following days Georgia was bombarded with insults on Facebook and Twitter, so as to force her to close the accounts. This probably would have happened the same, even if she had really been a big Bieber fan, because her luck had been so much, too much to the point of inciting envy and jealousy.
In fact, a similar fate had already happened to a seventeen year old from Bologna, fuckingly lucky to have won a free ticket for the concert of One Direction in New York, and especially to have had the opportunity to meet Harry Styles, as well as see his image immortalized in wax at Madame Tussaud’s.
Being close to your idol, is priceless!
Is not this enough?
Sounds strange if not impossible that five Norwegian schools have brought forward the exams date because of the concert that Bieber should hold 16, 17 and 18 April in the Telenor Arena in Oslo.
Well, five schools in Aalesund have decided to change the dates of the exams, planned on 16 and 17, to prevent students, engaged in the test, from “playing hookie” because of this concert.
But fans mania is all this and more, and in Norway the decision to postpone the exams has even received the consent of the official Norwegian Minister of Education.
For pity’s sake, let me kiss Bieber or touch Harry Styles!
Sometimes there are studies that seem to discover the hot water!
I read about a new research from the University of Georgia (UGA) concerning a survey on some students (from sixth grade to twelfth grade in six different school districts) to check the difference in academic performance between those who were already dating.
In summary, the results of the research reveal that students who date during this study period, have worse overall academic performance.
Weird, I was just convinced of the contrary!
In fact, it is well-known that wonks have always been the students who date earlier and more.
Sarcasm aside, I think no need to set up such researches to become aware that a student who begins flirting during adolescence, then will have another thing to think beyond the study.
Basically, an adolescent who begins to date and carry on an affair, only leads us to know that he/she is probably more “mature” than others. Where for “mature” I mean an adolescent who already feels a physical attraction (and not only) to the opposite sex.
Such maturity (including mental one) is the result of various influences, genetic, temperamental, social and environmental, while physical aspect and stage of sexual development also have their own considerable weight. On the other hand, all this is what, from time immemorial, differentiate unattractive/wimp/introvert teenagers from cool/lively/smart peers.
The research also highlights how emotional difficulties, bullying, depression, and anxiety are linked to higher rates of smoking, drinking, and drug use. Also, another recent University of Toronto study showed that children of divorced parents are 13 times more likely to start smoking cigarettes.
It was to be expected! Or were you thinking differently?
As mentioned ahead, family and social environment affect a lot on children’s behavior. I do not believe we’ve to be psychologists to understand it.
All things hackneyed. Researches or studies that may be, they have their cost. So I say, why researchers do not engage in something more useful, like trying to find ways to decrease divorces, bullying, anxiety, and so on and so forth?!
But, it is evidently easier to conduct a research, like those, to have the confirmation of things we already knew.
The desomorphine is an opiate derived from morphine and used in medicine for its strong analgesic effect, far superior to morphine.
This substance is coming to the fore in 2010 in Russia due to a sharp increase in its illegal production, because of its relative ease of synthesis from codeine. In fact, it can easily be obtained using codeine, iodine and red phosphorus, which give rise to a drug similar to desomorphine, but highly impure and contaminated with toxic and corrosive elements. In Russia such a “street drug” has been called Krokodil (crocodile) because it produces severe tissue damage, phlebitis and gangrene, but a cheaper alternative to the expensive and unavailable heroin.
The damage caused by krokodil is so devastating that the life expectancy of drug addicts who use it seem to be not more than three years, bringing serious skin lesions from the first use. Liver, kidneys and heart are the first organs that are affected by the drug already after the first injections.
According to what heroin-addicts say, its effects only lasts a few hours, but three times most powerful than heroin, and causing more dependence.
Only 1 of 100 addict would be able to detoxify.
This drug easily produced at home should be injected intravenously, because if accidentally injected intramuscularly leads to the total destruction of flesh and muscle, if not even the bones. Once in the bloodstream, it causes holes on the skin, like cigarette burns, that, slowly over time, become open sores. “The flesh is burned but we bear because cannot do without it, we’re addicted“, says a young krokodil-dependent.
The first cases of use and abuse of handmade krokodil were reported in eastern Siberia in 2002, but since then its use has spread throughout Russia, in the neighboring former Soviet republics and have arrived in other countries too. Years ago a sporadic use of the Krokodil were reported in Germany, while some media reported about some deaths.
In Russia is estimated that 100,000 persons die every year because of drug, with an estimated number of drug addicts 2.6000000-6000000. All are young, with an average age under 30 years, but teenagers also are involved. The city with a high rate of drug addicts is Tolyatti, in the center of Russia, which, due to economic problems, crisis, unemployment and more, has the highest rate of consumption of hard drugs in the world. Russia is one of the central hubs of the international drug trade from the Far East and Central Asia. Its territory serves as a bridge to Europe, but very often is the main destination of the Afghan drugs. According to estimates of the United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention, in Russia is consumed more than one-fifth of the drugs in circulation globally. Seventy tons of Afghan heroin arrive in the country each year, killing an average of 80 victims per day.
The Russian authorities have long been aware of the problem but have not yet been adopted appropriate measures to solve it because they consider drug-addicts as criminals, and because, as always, large economic interests at stake by the pharmaceutical companies that produce medications (such as codeine), from which addicts obtain the single substances to prepare the deadly mix.
It’s a matter of fact, thanks to scientific and technological innovations today we are living more and better.
But these changes have helped over the years also some genetic mutation, for example just think of the stature, with the new generations taller than their ancestors, or to the reduction of the fertility, because evolutionarily not the same need to reproduce ourselves as in the past.
But looking more closely to the evolution of the species, I have noticed, as many experts also say, that with the longer expectation of life and from age to age, it also have been acquired a lengthening of the time necessary for children to become “mature” or adults.
From long in many countries, the eighteen years of age represent the achievement of legal age, the coming of age linked with maturity, and this should suppose an eventual physic and mental maturity.
In the past, before age 18, a teenager was already considered an adult man, as evidently he already showed a physical and mental adulthood. Once, for a young man twenty years old, it was normal to be married, having children and already with a professional activity, beyond the need to cut definitively the “umbilical cord”, which kept him still tied to the family.
Today, instead, it’s not unusual for men older than 20 years still act and look like teenagers!
I would venture to say that the 18-years-old of sixty years ago can be compared roughly with the 25-years-old of today, about the look or the manhood, at least.
An evolutionary gap of 6-7 years or the price to pay for a greater longevity?

Body Odors originate from an interaction between skin gland secretions and bacteria on our skin. As people age, the activity of different types of skin glands changes, evidently, and this factor may contribute to the perceived change in body odor with age. Two things are certain:
1 – The smell of elderly people’s skin is different, compared with younger one. Scientifically the real reason isn’t clear yet, with those who say that it is a sign of the “good genes” that have allowed a male to live into old age, as it happens in the animal world, making him more attractive to females. While other scientists believe that the change could be associated with increased inflammation (part of an immune response) within the bodies of the elderly. 2 – The smell of the elderly people body seems less intense and less unpleasant than the body odor of young or middle-aged people, according to study researcher Johan Lundström, at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. On the contrary, most young people affirms and guess that old people’s odor is unpleasant. But this probably has more to do with negative perceptions of old age, rather than with the odor itself, as the new study indicates.
“The results of this study support the cross-culturally popular concept of an old person odor,” writes the international team in a study published today in the journal PLoS ONE.
In the study, participants rated the smell of the elderly people as less intense and less unpleasant than the body odor of young people (20 to 30 years old) and middle-aged people (45 to 55 years old). This effect was driven by how the participants rated the body odor from men, who appeared to smell the worst and the strongest in middle age. The team used young people to do the sniffing for two reasons: “They were more plentiful as volunteers and using participants from different age groups could potentially introduce a new layer of complexity, if age of the smeller influences how body odor is perceived”, Lundström said.
Point 1 granted, I say that in many cases, the elderly people’s smell becomes more strong – and for this looking unpleasant – because older people have different lifestyle. I mean, they no longer have the young people frenzy because adulthood leads to greater wisdom and balance, where every act is planned and motivated. In general, young people participate more in social life and are more active, and this combined with the desire to “impress others” bring them to be more demanding in terms of personal hygiene. A lot of young people even showers more times a day, and can change clothes and underwear several times! An elderly person, without valid reason, rarely comes to this, especially during wintertime. My grandparents, when still alive, usually used to have a bath or a complete toilette one day a week only. Probably for this, any grandchild had reason to say that grandparents smelled. Anyway, I prefer my grandmother’s smell rather than some boys’ feet stink!
